Remembering Alexander McQueen

February 12, 2010

The fashion industry mourn for the news that Alexander McQueen has killed himself and it is particularly devastating because it always felt to me like he’d be the last man standing. He was restless, but so pragmatic with it I assumed he had what it took to endure the extreme situations he placed himself in. He was also an arch romantic with a pessimistic streak.

It produced some of the most beautiful, shocking images in the history of fashion, but it’s a state of mind that can lead to endless disappointments. The death of McQueen’s mother last week would have validated his pessimism. It would undoubtedly have taken away his most vital support. It’s awful to imagine him trying—and failing—to cope, and one can only hope that, if he was looking for peace, he found it. For everyone left behind, there will eventually be consolation, however scant right now, in a body of work whose power will never die.

Here are some of his gorgeous creation as part of his remarkable legacy in the fashion industry.

Thandie Newton, Kate Bosworth, Jennifer Connelly, Gwen Stefani in Alexander McQueen dress.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have embraced his new modelling career with the striking series of steamy hot poses showing off his six-pack as the face of the new campaign for Emporio Armani Underwear and jeans. The black-and-white images for the Spring/Summer 2010 campaign were shot on location in Madrid by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

Armani said “Cristiano is a great-looking young man with the perfect physique of an athlete,” he also added that “Cristiano is the essence of youth – spontaneous, exciting and a real maverick. It is for his energy that I have chosen him to become the new face of Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani Underwear – for his youthful, exciting, and, yes, sexy attitude.”

Cristiano says: “Giorgio Armani is a legend in the fashion world and I have long been a fan of his work. I am very pleased with the pictures we have done together – they are certainly striking and are full of attitude and a spirit I can relate to.”

Stay calm to see more of Ronaldo and his six-pack when the ads hit magazines and billboards this February.

Extraordinary fashion

December 1, 2009

Do you dare to be different? Do you have the guts to walk on the street looking unusual compare to others? Let’s witness some of the extra ordinary fashion that is rarely seen everyday.

Viktor & Rolf’s – created a girl with pillows strapped to her head, makes her look like Victorian maids who had risen suddenly from a deep slumber.

Hussein Chalayan – scattered his catwalk with pieces of furniture. His models unzipped chair covers and dressed themselves in them, then stepped into the furniture, which was cleverly transformed into fashion.

Giles is known for his showmanship he created a giant, black, feathered egg, great for hiding a bloated tummy and bad hair days, not great for driving or manoeuvring cocktails to mouth.

Martin Margiela – created a cape out of hair, besides a nude bodystocking and a fencing mask, what do you wear it with? We’re stumped.

Victor & Rolf collection – the idea was to individually light up the details on every model, the audience was almost too worried about the models burning themselves on the hot bulbs to notice the collection, which was beautiful.

Experience fashion events via revolutionary digital technologies.  John Galliano was conjuring up a magical scenario on a laser-lit runway, with floating bubbles he created a dreamy parallel world for one of his best collections in a long time . Galliano’s color sense like the ice blues, silver lamés, powder pinks, and lemons was exquisite, it was his fashion version of Sunset Boulevard. Now let’s witness Galliano’s ready to wear collection.

It really takes an extra-special mastering of talent to remind everyone how unique to experience a great show specially when you  witness it on the spot.

Marisa Miller is definitely an angel walking on the runway while wearing the $3 million Fantasy bra this year at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York City.

The 31-year-old model had the honor following the footsteps of last year’s Fantasy wearer, Gisele Bundchen. “It’s like being a princess and Wearing it on the runway is such an honor.”

Marisa Miller wearing Victoria Secret fantasy bra

This year’s bra was covered in 150 carats of stones, including a 16-carat heart-shaped stone. “I don’t get to keep the bra, but I’m like, can I get a discount or something?” she joked. After the show, Marisa and her fellow Angels hit the after-party at NYC’s M2 Ultra Lounge to celebrate the successful show.

Indian Fashion

November 18, 2009

Who wouldn’t admire the colorful traditional clothing in India.  The color, style and the uniqueness of each design is extremely amazing. Here are some of my favorite Indian clothing.

Indian saree

Indian saree

Indian saree

Indian sari or saree – remains the traditional clothing of Indian women. It’s available in different colors and style, this graceful feminine attire can also be worn in several ways. The tightly fitted, short blouse worn under a sari is called a choli. The choli evolved as a form of Indian clothing around the tenth century AD and the first cholis were only front covering the back was always bare.

eternally chic salwar kameez

fashionable salwar kameez

Indian salwar-kameez – Another popular attire of women in India. This popular Indian dress evolved as a comfortable and respectable garment for women. Salwars are pyjama-like trousers drawn tightly in at the waist and the ankles.  Over the salwars, women wear a long and loose tunic known as a kameez. One might occasionally come across women wearing a churidar instead of a salwar. A churidar is similar to the salwar but is tighter fitting at the hips, thighs and ankles.  Over this, one might wear a collarless or mandarin-collar tunic called a kurta.
